Installation. Buffalo, NY, 2012

In 2008 I found myself in the depths of one of the nations oldest high schools, looking at the skeletal remains of one of the oldest recorded museums in North America. It sat in a dripping wet moldy pool room. I was sworn to secrecy, and it could not be leaked that the Niagara Falls Museum was here. The neglected museum was just minutes from the falls themselves. It sat abandoned for the past 10 years, waiting for a destiny.

The room was dimly lit by a single lightbulb. The stillness surrounding the artifacts overwhelmed me. I listened as water slowly dripped from the ceiling creating a puddle on the floor. The state of this museum paralleled the condition of the city it represented. Though in ruins, it was still so full of potential, wonder…curiosities. But I wondered, how long could it survive without being given any hope?

Project Mist was conceptualized in 2011 in collaboration with Lynne Koscielniak (Chair of University at Buffalo, Theatre Department). Our goal was to create a living museum at Niagara Falls State Park. The museum was designed to include several elements; a live orchestra at the brink of the falls, interactive installations throughout the park and a film projected onto Niagara Falls depicting Niagara’s tumultuous history. I was charged with writing and storyboarding the film, which was inspired by my experience with the abandoned Niagara Falls Museum. This page focuses on that imagery and storytelling. The film cycles through the many aspects that make up the history of Niagara including: daredevils, electricity, industry, waste, suicide, Native Americans, casinos and the war of 1812 to name a few.
